Recommended for golfers who:
Enjoy a
demanding but interesting layout
Since it
opened in the mid 1990s, Heritage Golf Links has been known
for its demanding but enjoyable Mike Young layout and its
proximity to downtown Atlanta. Located just outside
Spaghetti Junction, the course is conveniently situated for
Atlanta daily fee golfers, but has never enjoyed the success
its quality and setting would suggest.
Affiniti Golf Partners, a respected Atlanta-based golf
management accompany, has recently assumed operation of the
club, and has begun the process of returning Heritage to its
deserved status as one of the premier daily fee courses in
the metro area. Conditions are good and will get better,
with the greens on the way to again ranking with the area’s
finest.
Heritage Golf Links (known in recent years as Celebrity Golf
Club after opening as Heritage Golf Club) is a distinct,
reasonably difficult design, featuring some of the most
undulating greens you’ll encounter, along with a handful of
holes that can be quite daunting for shorter hitters.
The greens complexes form much of the challenge at Heritage,
with some deep bunkers best avoided. With many of the greens
perched above the bordering terrain, it is very helpful to
have a deft short game.
Measuring 6,875 yards from the back tees and 6,450 from the
blues, Heritage isn’t especially lengthy, with only a few
holes with serious yardage. But a trio of par 4s require
sizeable carries off the tee to clear hazards, and two par
3s measure 220 from the blues. The white tees may be a bit
short for those accustomed to playing from the blues, but
both the long par 3s and at least two of the daunting par 4s
(12 and 18) are sufficient challenges from the whites for
those not comfortable with carries of 200-plus yards over
trouble. It is a stern but fair test for lower handicappers
teeing it up from the tips.
As demanding as it can be, Heritage is a thoroughly
enjoyable layout, with plenty of scoring opportunities apart
from the two tour-length par 3s and a quartet of par 4s. The
course is generous off the tee with a few exceptions, and
features some surprisingly rolling terrain for its location,
with many of the fairways having as much movement as the
putting surfaces.
With no development on the property, Heritage Golf Links is
among the most scenic courses in the metro area, with its
compact nature providing some splendid vistas of other areas
of the course. The course has been relatively quiet on the
Atlanta golf scene for a number of years, but is positioned
to make some noise in the near future.
