Traditional, resort-style options…
Long one of Atlanta's favorite courses,
the highly-regarded Robert Trent Jones 18
has been supplemented by two new nines by John LaFoy
featuring more of a resort
feel. Original 18 is
a terrific traditional test,
playing to a par 70 with some length,
tight tree lines and quick greens. With an exception
or two, the par 4s are a handful,
requiring both accuracy and length from the tee, even
if you're not playing from the
back tees.
The newer, more resort-oriented 18
features a scenic front nine around Stone
Mountain Lake that is relatively short but filled with
trouble, as well as a few of the
toughest holes among the 36. The tee shot over water
on the par-5 first with the
mountain in the background is one of the great sights
in Atlanta golf, but like the
treacherous par-4 third, which requires a lengthy
second shot over a rocky creek,
the wonderful views can't diminish the demands of the
shots at hand.
The newest
nine, which serves as the inward half on the Lakemont
Course, is the most rugged
of the group in terms of terrain, but offers the most
scoring opportunities with several
par 4s that should require only short iron
approaches. Conditions and amenities have been
upgraded since the Marriott Group took over operation,
and it is again one of the best and most popular
destinations for local players and visitors.

If you want to play a magnificent course designed by a
legendary designer in an historical setting then St.
Mountain is the place. It is a true test of golf, no tricked
up holes just straight ahead golf.

This is an incredible nice golf course ! I've played it the
first time this week and am more than overwelmed ! As I am a
beginner, I found all challenges you can find on a golf
course. The Lakemond course is definetly one of niced
courses I have seen so far. Max Lipscomb /Stone Mountain
Great Course and wonderful Staff. Everyone was so friendly
and helpful. They don't put on aires as some of these other
courses do. I'll gladly pay my green fees to play at Stone
Mountain Golf Club.

I've
played this course a few times and it's great. And the
people who work there are
friendly and knowledgeable.

Just played Lakemont yesterday, the coarse is in pretty good
shape. The greens are
good shape (not great yet). Its still a fun, but tough
course to play. Especially the par
3, 6th hole over the edge of the lake to your left. I'll be
back out there next week.

Lakemont at Stone Mountain is a great way to spend a day.
The course is very playable, but has
a few holes that will bring you to your knees.
The scenery is beautiful as
you play along the
Lake- side on the front nine.
Every time is a time to remember. The
people of Marriott do a wonderful job of making you feel
welcome.
