Enjoyable layout no soft touch…
Among area's most playable courses, but not a pushover
despite modest length from blue tees. An interesting,
mid-length layout that places more emphasis on
accuracy and a deft short game than power. Just 6,775
yards from the gold tees and a modest 6,000 from the
blues, this Steve Melnyk design has only a handful of
par 4s with appreciable length, with several barely
exceeding 300 yards from the blues. Don't be deceived
by the absence of length, as the relatively narrow
fairways and some of
Atlanta's
testiest putting surfaces more than compensate for
the modest yardage.
The quartet of par 5s are among the area's most
intriguing, if not among the longest. Precision off
the tee and careful placement of approach shots are
key, with three of the four featuring greens guarded
zealously by hazards. The par 3s are mostly on the
tame side, although the wide, undulating 11th green is
a tough target to hit and one of the most treacherous
to putt in the Atlanta area.
The long and watery eighth is one of
Atlanta's most demanding and scenic par 4s, but the heart of the
course is a group of shortish 4s that offer scoring
opportunities to those who keep it in the fairway off
the tee and below the hole on the typically slick
putting surfaces. The short but perilous 15th has
wrecked its share of promising rounds, and is one of a
number of par 4s that are much more inviting on the
scorecard than in reality. Altogether, Trophy Club of
Atlanta is one of the best combinations of challenge
and playability in the metro area.

The course was in very
good condition with the greens quick. The
greens can be quite a problem because they
are large and have good contour.

Enjoyed playing well groomed course. Only wished they had
sanded the greens after
my round of golf. Greens were very slow!

A
short course, even from the blues. But very well maintained
and some challenging holes. Water is in play on several
holes.

Beautiful course. Played it once, but will
be back. Course in excellent shape even with the lack of
rain. Shorter than most courses, but still challenging

Daily fees are reasonable. Twilight specials are a gret deal
during this time of the season. Keep in practice in 2001.
