Achasta Golf Club Golf Course Review

Although located in the North Georgia foothills, the course features very gentle terrain, with the Chestatee River winding through a very playable layout that is one of Golf Atlanta best conditioned courses. The course is among the gentlest of the Nicklaus designs around, without a great deal of length and mostly generous fairways, but the river or another hazard is in play on a majority of holes, although mainly to the side.

The course was constructed within a fairly narrow corridor that includes a number of parallel holes and allows a little margin for error off the tee, provided you miss when the water is not a factor. The greens complexes are relatively tame with modest bunkering, but the excellent putting surfaces can get pretty quick, and have sufficient size and undulation to result in three-putts if you struggle with the flat stick.

The river intersects two of the par 5s (4, 14 and 15) and requires a carry on either the second or third shot, while the perplexing par-4 ninth necessitates a well-struck tee shot to set up the second over the river, with the raised bridge over the water also in play if you don’t drive it solidly. Three of the par 3s are on the short side, but overhanging trees and bordering hazards demand considerable precision. The 13th is an interesting, drivable par 4 with a delicate touch required on the second shot to get close to the pin on the elevated green.

Lengthy, watery 18th is one of the area’s best par-4 finishing holes and provides a picturesque but stern test that concludes one of the area’s most enjoyable layouts.
