The first Atlanta design by former Atlanta resident Davis Love III has recently opened, and will take its place among the area’s top daily fee layouts. Dramatic elevation changes and a healthy number of challenges make it one of the more challenging tracks, although the shortish whitetees reduce the demand significantly. Windermere ranks high in both conditioning and scenic appeal, with a testy group of greens complexes adding to the well-rounded challenge. The course is relatively open, but trouble is almost always within range if you stray too far.
Love’s appealing layout ranks high in both conditioning and scenic appeal, with some large greens featuring considerable amounts of slope adding to the well-rounded challenge. A par-71 with five par 3s and a fair amount of length, it is relatively open off the tee, but trouble is almost always within range if you stray too far. Choose tees you play from wisely, because there is a significant distance between each set.
As you might expect from a power player like Love, at least three holes among the appealing group of par 5s offer the chance to get home in two if you can nail it off the tee and pull off a somewhat risky second shot. With a few exceptions, the par 4s are not particularly lengthy from the blue tees, with accuracy a more prized asset than distance on most of them. Two of the par 3s are of PGA Tour length, with huge greens that can leave you with monster-length birdie putts.
