Chestatee Golf Club Course Review

Course architect Denis Griffiths has created some of the finest courses in the Atlanta area, and Chestatee is among his best. Located in a mountain setting, the course has the feel and scenic beauty of a mountain course without severe or awkward elevation changes.

Length is only occasionally a factor on the par-71 layout, thanks largely to a number of elevated tees that offer some gorgeous views. But accuracy off the tee is a serious concern, especially on several holes where trouble lurks down the right side. With a few of the tees angling to the left, anything right of center may be headed for a hazard, so leave your fade at home.

Once you’ve found the fairway, scoring opportunities are plentiful, as the large greens are not overly undulating. Long, watery, par-4 eighth is among the handful of toughest holes in all of Atlanta, with pressure on both the tee shot and approach. A strong, interesting group of par 5s, with the 16th reachable in two if you avoid some rugged terrrain and go straight at the green from the divided fairway.

  1. Scenic, beautiful course. Well worth the drive and i will be going back often. maybe to live. Challenging, but fair course with accuracy a premium, especially on approaches to greens. Very fast greens and must be below hole to score well.

  2. Nice course with some very challenging holes. Par 5’s make you work. The greens are cut very short and run very fast with some tough pin placements. Worth the drive north of the city.

  3. Mountain golf. The layout is very similar to all other Denis Griffiths courses I have played with some interesting holes. The staff was very friendly and the free range balls are a nice touch.

  4. Great course with exceptional service. It would be extremely helpful to have a course diagram on the score card and probably would speed play. I look forward to returning.

  5. Great course and a good value. Wide open Par 5 first hole, let ‘er rip with a slight dogleg right. I always find the course in good shape and the pace of play is nice and quick. It can play pretty challenging from the tips. For all the high dollar courses in the North Georgia area, this course by far is the best value for your golfing dollar!

  6. Great course. It is where I bring all my out of town friends. Fairly priced, extremely friendly staff, and a challenge from all tees.

  7. Fast greens, fair price. Last time I played was mid October. The fairways were just coming in with rye. Many shots end up being target shots so plan ahead for you second shot. Other than some drainage problems I would say this is a fine course with Pro-speed greens.

  8. The layout is not punishing, but if you move the ball right this course will be very challenging. In good condition, greens are moderate speed. Service is above average. If you haven’t played it yet, it’s worth the drive!

  9. Absolutely Fabulous !I really enjoyed the round. Some sceneries are really worth seeing. Be accurate, there is little margin for error. If you don’t know this course, TRY IT.

  10. This course continues to impress me! The greens are great, the fariways are in good shape, and the staff, unlike most open play courses, try to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Always a happy face at the bag drop, club house and starter positions. For a great round at a wonderful facility, give this course a try!

  11. Drop you wife at the outlet mall and go 3 miles north for a great golf course. I loved the roll that you get in these fairways. The free cookies from the pro-shop is a nice touch also.

  12. A good test of golf, especially from the tips. Slicers beware, as most of the trouble here is to the right. Very smooth, quick greens.

  13. Great course!! From the cookies in the clubhouse to the apples on the front and back nine they know how to take care of the golfers. The course is in great condition and alot of fun. The more you play it the more fun it becomes. A must play
