Summergrove Golf Club Course Review
Summer Grove rates high aesthetically as well, with plenty of attractive views, including several water holes that look appealing but may not be viewed quite as appreciate after an errant shot. A well-crafted mix of holes with accuracy more an asset than length (with an exception or two), and a memorable set of greens complexes that will test your putting touch as well as your adeptness with a wedge. Quickly becoming one of area’s most highly-regarded facilities.
With moderate length and ample, zoysia fairways, the layout offers scoring opportunities, but water is seriously in play on about half the holes, with others well-bunkered. Several of the water holes are exceptional, including a short, picturesque par 4 (No. 5) and a lengthy par 4 (No. 9) with a demanding approach over a creek to a smallish target. A unique design feature are the Pinehurst-style shaved areas around the mostly large, undulating greens, which make for some interesting short game choices.
Although the greens complexes have a Pinehurst quality, they are not nearly as severe, and the overall layout is on the friendly side, although there are a handful of extremely challenging holes. Three of the excellent quartet of par 5s have a fairly high degree of danger, and the long, hazardous par-4 ninth is on a short list of Atlanta’s toughest holes. Fortunately, the rest of the layout is considerably more forgiving, with five sets of nicely-spaced tees affording shorter hitters and higher handicappers a playable challenge.
