City Club Marietta Golf Course Review

One of Atlanta’s shortest regulation layouts, but one of the most entertaining to play and not as easy as the yardage might lead you to think. After the first hole, no par 4 measures longer than 370 yards from the back tees, but you will be amazed how long an uphill 350-yard par 4 can play if you don’t hit it solidly off the tee.

Short on length, long on enjoyment.

The layout features an interesting mix of holes, including three intriguing par 5s and a group of short par 4s that offer scoring opportunities if you can keep your ball between the tree lines and solve some of Atlanta’s testiest putting surfaces. Watch out for the long eighth, one of Atlanta’s most distinctive and demanding par 5s. Rolling terrain and some of Atlanta’s best and most challenging greens keep it from being too easy a mark.

With the course measuring well under 6,000 yards, you will have the opportunity to hit far more short irons into holes than you may be accustomed to. But if you miss the fairways or struggle on the excellent but testy putting surfaces, the score you wind up with may not match what you had anticipated after getting a look at the total yardage.

  1. I’ve always liked this compact course. Even though the yardage is not long the holes are generally well designed and give the player many different looks throughout the round. It needs to be played a few times to get the feel for some of the blind shots.

  2. A great short course to play with finely kept greens. Challenging narrow fairways. A pleasure to play again and again

  3. This course is fabulous for a course that is short, and does have it’s moments. It will challenge all levels and you will use all of your clubs. Greens are fast and soft, and the fairways are in great shape. The price is outstanding too!

  6. I have played most of the courses on your list. City Club is one I will go back to again They were very well organized at the start, the fairways and greens were perfect, and the course was challenging. If you want a good experience playing golf, give City Club a try!

  7. This course is very challenging but fair. Fairways are in great shape and the greens run very true. During the weekday you can play a round in the afternoon during in about 3 hours.

  8. I was a member of the original Marietta CC until 1980 and hadn’t set foot on the property from 1981 until 2001. I was very pleasantly surprised with the redesign of many of the holes. The course is very sporty, short by modern standards but demanding accuracy by anyone’s standards. The greens are smooth and roll the ball well. Everyone in the pro shop treated me courteously, and I have had nothing but good experiences at City Club since I started going back there.
