Riverpines Golf Club Review

Since it opened in the early ’90s, the par-70 layout designed by Denis Griffiths has arguably been the most popular upscale daily fee course in the metro area. Featuring a prime location amid some of the area’s top private courses, River Pines also has a nine-hole, par-3 layout, one of Atlanta’s finest practice facilities and a well-conditioned course that can comfortably accommodate players of varying skill levels.

Par-70 layout features one of Atlanta’s best collection of par-4s, all but one or two requiring two solid shots to produce pars. Very fair test for all levels of players. Location, excellent condition, quality practice area and non-development setting make it among Atlanta’s busiest faclities, with adjacent 9 hole Par 3 adding to its appeal. Recently added attractive clubhouse.

The strongest aspect of the layout is one of Atlanta’s best collection of par-4s, almost all requiring two solid shots to produce pars. The length on the scorecard is not indicative of the challenge the layout presents, with the par 3s and two par 5s on the short to medium side. With most of the par 4s having some length and several featuring hazards along the way, the driver is the key club, as the greens complexes are on the gentle side.

Located along side the Chattahoochee River, either water or wetlands areas are in play on a majority of holes, with the exception of the par 3s, which lack both serious danger and length. The par 4s more than compensate, with only two of 12 falling into the soft touch category.

  1. I am new to the area and River Pines is just up the street on Old Alabama. Great course that is always in good condition.

  2. Course is always in great shape and personnel are friendly and helpful. Best practice setup in the metro Area, driving range, two practice greens, sand area, and nice par three course.

  3. This is an excellent course for both a scratch golfer or a “ground beater” like myself. It’s always well groomed and managed.

  4. Very nice course with excellent greens and some challenging drives such as on the 11th and 13th. Good price for the quality of the course. Weekend play sometimes slow.

  5. While in Alpharetta over the last 2½ weeks during which it rained cats and dogs, we remained intent on playing golf. Before leaving, I called River Pines from our home in Keller, TX for a tee time despite the impending rain. The golf shop folks were very courteous and helpful and actually made it easy for my boys and I to plan an outing together. What really surprised me was the great shape the course was in despite the rain. We played in very wet conditions on a course in very good condition that met our expectations plus quite a bit.

  6. Not exceptionally long and if you are a long hitter this may not be the course for you. Straight is the name of the game. It’s an excellent opportunity to practice teeing off
    with your long irons.

  7. Great and beautiful course.Fun to play for beginners and not too intimidating especially from the forward tees. The practice facilities are the best in Atlanta.

  8. A great Daily fee course that is always in good shape. It has a good practice facility to hone your putting, woods & Irons. A good challenging golf course!

  9. Very nice and challenging course. offers a good mixture of long holes and short ones. par 5s can be reached with two good to great shots. greens are nice and consistent, not to fast or to slow, putt very true. I recommend this course for the average golf looking for a challenge.

  10. Great practice facility including large driving range, two putting greens, and bunkers. Challenging 18 hole championship course, but only a par 70 so this course may not be for long-knockers who love the par 5s. Also, a 9 hole par 3 course to work on your short game.
