Since it opened in the early ’90s, the par-70 layout designed by Denis Griffiths has arguably been the most popular upscale daily fee course in the metro area. Featuring a prime location amid some of the area’s top private courses, River Pines also has a nine-hole, par-3 layout, one of Atlanta’s finest practice facilities and a well-conditioned course that can comfortably accommodate players of varying skill levels.
Par-70 layout features one of Atlanta’s best collection of par-4s, all but one or two requiring two solid shots to produce pars. Very fair test for all levels of players. Location, excellent condition, quality practice area and non-development setting make it among Atlanta’s busiest faclities, with adjacent 9 hole Par 3 adding to its appeal. Recently added attractive clubhouse.
The strongest aspect of the layout is one of Atlanta’s best collection of par-4s, almost all requiring two solid shots to produce pars. The length on the scorecard is not indicative of the challenge the layout presents, with the par 3s and two par 5s on the short to medium side. With most of the par 4s having some length and several featuring hazards along the way, the driver is the key club, as the greens complexes are on the gentle side.
Located along side the Chattahoochee River, either water or wetlands areas are in play on a majority of holes, with the exception of the par 3s, which lack both serious danger and length. The par 4s more than compensate, with only two of 12 falling into the soft touch category.
